Step #1: Contemplation - Are You Picking Freelancing for the Wrong Reasons?

Last time we’ve discussed that freelancing isn’t just a working status but a matter of lifestyle. Let’s start by examining the situation. Nowadays, many people say they’re willing to freelance and quit their jobs in this very moment. If you google freelancing - the odds are that you landed here because of this very fact - you’ll get an endless list of results on how to manage your time, manage clients, or set an hourly fee (We’ll get to that in Phase 2). The problem is that rarely ever does anyone ask the ultimate question: are you picking freelancing for the wrong reasons?

Freelancing vividly reminds me of graduate school when you’re a senior: everyone is talking about it, everyone wants, only %5 manage to stick to their programs in the end. It is a matter of fact that our overachieving society pushes us to do things without even contemplating the true motivation behind our desires. To be a successful freelancer, you must be in it for the right reasons.
Now ask yourself: why did you decide to become a freelancer?

  • You want to earn a better pay?
  • You’re unemployed?
  • You’re tired of people bossing you around?
  • You hate your job?
  • You hate your boss?
  • You need change?
