Freelancing Wagon: Part-time or Full-time? (Part I)
Posted by | Posted in Freelancing 101 | Posted on 05-05-2008
Now that we’ve sorted out the ranks, we can discuss the actual freelancing business. When starting to freelance, one must assess his options. Do you want to quit your job and become a full-time freelancer? Or do you want to keep your job (for the mean time) and freelance part-time?
Some might say, but what’s the difference? Each option has its own pros and cons. Let’s start with part-time freelancing.
Advantages:
- You can rely on your current paycheck for emergency support.
- You can start recruiting clients (you can nick customers from your firm:) )
- You can work on your general portfolio (writing, design, and coding samples, resume, etc)
- You can find the time to start your new website! (To be discussed later)
Disadvantages:
- You won’t have time to breathe properly.
- Clients will often call you during your working hours.
- You’ll be exhausted by the end of the day.
Now that we’re done with the part-time option, we can move to the fulltime option.
